I wonder how easy is to make a replica huh.gif , first you need a pre 1967 beetle (rare vehicles and collector items, I have seen only a hand full in Romania) then make the body from steel but you need a lot of experience in sheet metal forming as all the panels are stamped metal and don't have simple shapes, if you want to make it from fiber glass you need molds to make the molds you need an original... or easier buy all the body panels, not cheap : http://www.kooblekar.com/

The Kubel /beattle are cars easy to make.
Actualy if you look under them you'll see that they are not simetrical.
They were suposed to be built easily,with low costs and hight numbers.
The most dificult part are the doors.
Much more dificult is to find suitable wheels.

I think it's easier to recreate a soviet "Jeep" as the czech reenactors did. They transformed a GAZ-69 vehicle into a WW2 recconaissance car.

See an image of the latest reconstruction of the liberation of Brest (in Czech Republic) of 17th of May, 2008. A "soviet" Jeep transporting 10 "romanian soldiers"(real romanian and czech reenactors) during that event. The 10th person was shooting the picture... smile.gif

thanks for the advice kepi, but not interested in soviet militaria biggrin.gif

i prefer a kubel and deal with ARR and all.
also is too bad to modify an ARO M461(ims.....romanian gaz).
i have friends that have totally rebuild an IMS, and after 100km the oil started to leak from direction. and the gaskets were new.
laugh.gif

i'd prefer to rebuild an vw engine, with german, not turkish parts, and that for sure will do 100.000 km. i think it would be nice to have a kubel in romania, even a repro.

is the DAK paint original? many vechicles were resprayed when they were sent to Africa. And also, the factory provided armor in field grey. This one is probbably from a SdKfz 11.

I'm not sure it's DAK color as from 1943 most (all new ones) German vehicles were repainted with Dunkelgelb nach Muster (Dunkelgelb RAL 7028).

SdKfz 11?? Notec lights were used on vehicles from motorcycles to tanks so it's impossible to know from what vehicle it is.

As far as i know, DAK SdKfz`s had one of these, so that`s why i said this. Anyway, i don`t think any of these things survived from a "dead" Panzer.

7.5 cm PAK (panzerabwehrkanone=anti-tank gun)

it hs some marks: 44(year)

bnf-manufacturer Polte Wolfenbeuttel Metallwerk GMBH

and the cap(i don't know the word for "capsa") is marked:
nhr- manuf. Rheinmetall-Borsig AG, workshop Werk Soemmerda

it is marked also 7.5 cm kwk 46(kwk= kampfwagenkanone=fight vehicle)

It will be one repro based on a vw pre 67 beetle!...Idon't know when, yet!
