On 22 June 1941, the brigade had 245 officers, 206 NCOs and 6,890 soldiers. They were equipped with 6,118 rifles, 272 pistols, 201 ZB-30 LMGs, 52 HMGs, 52 mortars, 30 artillery pieces and 6 R-1 light tanks. For transportation it had 6,485 horses, 502 horse-drawn carts and 120 motorized vehicles.

On 15 March 1942, it was reorganized and transformed into the 1st Cavalry Division.
