Hello Vic

I agree that not all Italian were fascists and not all commies were commies...but regarding the Germans , not all Germans were Nazzies but all Germans were Germans and all Austrians and Swiss are still Austrian and Swiss till the day of today ...they all went to war sympathetic to Hitler and only a irrelevant percentage refused to agree with Hitler views ...majority followed Hitler ...Austrians were as Nazzies as the Germans and Swiss factories produced merchandise and parts for the Whermacht .....threw trains of jewish refugees back to German camps .....and acted as a flag in the wind.

I am telling you all this because I live with those for the past 25 years and I know how they tick and act which has similarities they thought and acted in the past during WWII.........as I mentioned previously they are bloody lucky that they weren't nuked by the Russians and Brits .....and we are lucky that they have no military capability to ever wage war again.

The slimy Swiss like in all wars , have taken advantage of the winners and losers by making profits for themselves and their Banks under their so called faked neutrality ...and the Austrians were as Germans as the Germans ,many joined the SS ,SD and Gestapo and killed for pleasure........the" currageous " SS jerks as the Russians occupied Germany and Austria most of them got dressed as civilians or simply disappeared with the local population (case Himmler and Eichmann)......real great brave soldiers ! Erich Hartmann , G.Rall , Backhorn and Galland who werent convinced nazzied stood back in uniforms and didnt leave their squadrons ....which later they have paid with many years Russian detention.

Last but not least post WWII East Germans, many of them retired the Whermacht .... were more communist than the Lenin and Mao and it once again portrays the German mentality, jumping from one exterme to the other . Best example was Feld.Marschall Friedich von Paulus who was a convinced WWII warrier and later turned into being a pacifist and wanting to conduct deals with Stalin from his house detention in Dresden. I can cite many others etc.......let me end that I am puzzled of those Rumanians who claim after 60 years that Rumanian were comrade in arms with the Germans, that a stupid joke !.....I invite all of you who think this to live in the Germany ,Austria and Switzreland of today.......you will certainly change your mind !!

But as you say thats an other topic....and I am off this shitty subject

Alex

The poster statement, however, is very true... biggrin.gif In old times, the shovel was very often a soldier's best friend! My grandfather used to tell me how the recruits were taught to use their trench shovels as weapons, enhancing its killing potential by sharpning the sides into a cutting edge... brutal, but very effective!

And here a reminder that there are dangers other than bullets in war, according to the Catalan text from this Spanish Civil War vintage poster: "Protect yourself from venereal diseases, as if these were bullets".
From "Armas y pertrechos de la Guerra Civil Española", by José Mario Armero y Manuel González. Ediciones Poniente, Madrid, 1981.

The U.S. National archives page has an interesting selection of World War II American posters on-line at
http://www.archives.gov/exhibit_hall/power...sion_intro.html
like this one, produced (according to the caption) by the Royal Typewriter Company for the U.S. Civil Service Commission:

I will have to ask you to limit the upload of too many pictures not related to Romanian Army, to save server space.
