Does anyone know what medal or badge is this one?

I saw it on eBay, but have no idea of what it could be. The cross is identical to the "Trecerea Dunarii - 1877". However, the ribbon is British style.

Actually it is quite far from that one even neglecting the enamel (see below). 
I agree that the ribbon is in the British style, but the monogram in the centre looks very Romanian. Could it be a regimental badge transformed into a medal? As far as I know the use of such badges was discontinued after the overthrow of Carol II and therefore there should not be any badges with Mihai's monogram. I wonder if it has anything written on the back. |

The arms of the cross are on the pattern of the Trecerea Dunarii... Of course it has the white enamel...
 I do not think that it could be a regimental award ; instead, there's the possibility that this award may be something of the type "Bene Merenti" or "Casei Domnitoare", something strictly related to the Royal House... |

Were there any more awards of the royal house except the Order for Merit, the Order of the Ruling House and the Bene Merenti Order? I don't know any. Furthermore, the decorations of the ruling house were no longer awarded after the overthrow of Carol II, so there should not be any with Mihai's monogram.
Anyhow, this badge was bought by 4mygal. Do you know him? Can you ask him what is it? |

The Bene Merenti order was replaced by the Order of St. George on 3/8/40. Since Carol II abdicated in Sept 1940 and Mihai did not award any, they are very rare. Pic of 1st and 2d class attached. |

The Order of St. George was intended as a purely military war order that would bridge the gap between the Order of Michael the Brave and the national orders that were awarded in time of war. As Romania was not involved in 1940 in any war, the badges bearing Carol II's monogram were only produced but not awarded. Then the use of the carlist orders was discontinued (even though they were never oficially disbanded). Therefore the order of St. George is considered only a project, not a full order. (according to F. Marinescu's work) Thank you very much for the images. These badges are very rare indeed. |

I beleive that this piece is a Regimental jetton medal. The initials are BGR and not BRG. BGR for Brigazi Garda Regala or Brigade Guard Royal. Issued during the time of King Michael as noted by the cypher. White enamel is the regimental color for the Palace Guard Regiment which was one of the Regiments making up the BGR. The cross indicates a reserve officer. |
