The pilot died in the air : ,, Gheorghe Popescu/ died shot in air as the official report ".It an expresian that we hear many times regarding the romanian and german pilots that died in Romania in 1944. But it is actually thruth ? It was a practice for american pilots to kill theur oponents in the air or it is just the romanian and german propaganda ? It was possibil after all that a pilot it is shot inside the plane and with his last sterngth manage to jump and died in the air by his enjuries while hanging in his parachute.

Where did you come across the information that he was shot while parachuting? I thought the pilot's remains were recovered from the wreckage in 1944.
The truth of what actually happened to 371 is not yet known. There is a possibility that it was "friendly fire". Radu |

That was not the case for the pilot of 371. There is no confirmation that Mustangs ( or any US fighters) engaged the fight in the area ( Timisul-Brasov). On that day Brasov was not the target for US bombers . |
