Always makes me wander, how comes not one Dornier 17 survived to be displayed in a museum?

It was used early in the war and by the end of the war whatever airframes (of all types) were left were destroyed and "recycled" when Germany was rebuilt - those materials were valuable and in short supply and no one was interested in preserving war machines (anywhere in the world).
In fact, most aircraft that survive in museums these days were captured/preserved towards the end of the war and survived only because of enthusiasts and collectors - governments do not really care.
Any existing "Axis" early-war airframes are recovered/restored wrecks, like this one.
