This is a little bit off-topic /as it is not Romania/, but I thought it will be interesting for you to see some old photos from the neighbours, the Bulgarian aviation. These are the pics so far, with the time many more will be added:
http://www.lostbulgaria.com/?cat=245 Click on the pictures to see larger. Someday the owner will make an English version, but for now it's only Bulgarian, so if you have questions, point to me which photo you want to know about. This post has been edited by Theodor on December 18, 2009 09:27 am |

The image with the large parachute: the summer of 1944, Bulgarian paratrooper in combat gear after a jump, assisted by a boy and a soldier.
Then the series of several similar photos of paratroopers is their return to the capital Sofia in 1945 after the participation in combats against Germany. |

Very nice pictures Theodor . I found a present picture of yours Arado 196 A 3 , a veritable treasure ( There are only 3 survivors in the world , 2 in USA ( A5 variants ) , and yours unique variant A 3. ) Pity that it is not kept in a covered space .

Yes, it is a big shame, the plane should be at least under a roof, if not a in a closed building. But for now it is left to the elements!

I see that the link isn't working now. But you can look on the google informations about Bulgarian Aviation Museum ( Plovdiv) where is kept the Arado 196. |

Unfortunately the winter storms have removed the skin and exposed the frame of the aircraft body /I believe most of the skin was restoration-replacement anyway/, so it is a sad view now! It is over time to put it under roof, it is a historical piece!
