What was the name (in Romanian and English) of the Romanian Army during WW2?

Thanks.

Marcus,

I think it was referred to as the Royal Army (Armata Regala). Or just simply as Armata.

Depends though.

Maybe Marcus was refering to the land forces (army). In Romanian armata = army can designate the entire types of units - land, naval and air.

"Armata" can stand for armed forces.

the english/american meaning for army (land units) would be in Romanian "fortele terestre" (= land forces) or "trupele de uscat" (aprox. land troops). The later is surely more accurate for that time frame.

I've seen on several sites FARR (Fortele Aeriene Regale Romane) but I don't think for the armed forces as a whole the "royal" was used oficially. Romania was a kingdom and the king was the head of state and chief of the army so the "royal" was somehow implied.

in a previos report the refering for a romanian army navy was NMS (Nava Majestatii Sale) Marasesti, aproximative translate (HMN - His Majesties Navy)
so I think that the Romanian Army was split in:
Royal Landing Army
Royal Marine Army
Royal Air Army

NMS translated means HMS=His/Her Majesties' Ship (just like in the Royal Navy).

Royal Landing Army

Romanian troops did not execute any "landings"

QUOTE
Royal Marine Army

The Romanian Royal Navy had only one Marine(=Infanterie marina)Regiment. Hardly an "army"

I just found in an original document, dated August 23, 1944, clearly spelled out: 'Armata Româna', i.e., The Rumanian Army.
