always painful to read such articles about our Gvt that doesnt give a flying [] about the VERY FEW ww2 veterans still alive...

painful... really.

I wish a good health for Mr. Dumitru and... what can I say more than - I hope our leaders will get the chance to be shot down in an airplane in war conditions. Dont get me wrong, so they can experience... you know, what is like.

QUOTE (Mihai Popteanu @ September 08, 2010 05:33 pm)
Does anyone know about Dumitru Mîţu, ARR veteran  ?

I didn't find any details on his accident in my database.

The article is vague, does not say what role did the aviator have, his unit, or his rank. Night time missions were very rare in ARR.

I am also looking forward to learning more about him.

QUOTE
Imediat după ce a fost brevetat, în 1940, tânărul aviator de atunci a fost trimis pe front unde a şi fost rănit.

Romania entered in ww2 in 22 June 1941.

He does not appear in my list of Aeronautical Virtue recipients.

His name appears in "Istoria Aviatiei Romane", I think related to year 1957 if I recall. Something to do with some speed record or such. Just look him up at the index of names, if you have the book.
As to his ww2 career, I dont have any references as of yet, but material on that period is fairly limited.

As to WW2, I reckon that if even Denes was unable to find much info on his careerer, there are slim chances to find some info.

No Aeronautical Virtue awards listed, and therefore no royal decree, no unit....

In Register "Brevete de Pilot Militar" Mr. Mitu has received military brevet pilot.
Not included in "Ordinea de Bataie" in aeronautical military units
It is registered in Register "Brevete Pilot de Transport Aerian", received in 20 september 1960.

Excuse my translation!

Thank you for the reply (your English text is very good).

Did you find any detail on the incident where he was wounded (during night time)?

I have not identified during 1939-1945.
Not justified by the fact that he held a pilot certificate.
The man is old, have met similar cases.
