cool thanks, are they armed with 20mm AA for defence ?
and if so how many.
Are there any photos of any of these vessels

Found on a german site :
Merchant Ships emploied as Transport Ships of Wounded (Verwundetentransportschiffe) :
Ardeal, 1941 to 06.42, + Odessa, torpedo
Suceava, 1941 to 04.43, + Constanza-Sevastopol, torpedo
Cavarna, 1941 to 12.41, + Bugaz, mine
Sulina, 05.41 to 05.42, + Bugaz, torpedo
Romania, 03.42 to 10.42, without missions

Also found : in 1943, Transport Ships of Wounded, subordinated to the German Admiral : "Zar Ferdinand", "Ardeal" and "Suceava".

Also found : On Oct.2-nd. 1944, the French Sub. Curie (ex. HMS Vox) torpedoed and sank the German merchant Zar Ferdinand (1994 GRT) north-west of Skiathos Island, Greece. The two patrol boats in company of ZAR FERDINAND were GD 97 and GK 92. The vessel which opened fire on Curie was TA 18.
ZAR FERDINAND is also mentioned sometime as ASSAK. German Admiral F.Lange’s war diaries always refers to her as ZAR FERDINAND.
