I started with 21 inf's quotte on this forum, about 1848-1849 fightings in Transylvania,

and I find something interestant about Romanians who fought in Napoleonic wars:

21 inf, do you know more about Ioan Sulutiu's activity like austrian officer in Napoleonic wars? Like the battle or campaings were he took part?

Thank you very much, Victor and 21 Inf, for your information. If you find something more about it, let me know. I asked to myself, there are some reports about the battles, maybe in military archives, or maybe in museums?

For sure they are, but who knows if they were researched and if did so, published??

Next month I'll have to make a trip to Nasaud, I'll try to find something at Muzeul graniceresc, if it is opened, because in summer was under renovation.

there is a story either in Smith's "Battle of Nations" or in Haythornwaithe's "Napoleonic Cavalry" (can't remeber now) about a dragoon from a romanian regiment during the campaign of 1813, who rode on his own all the way from Saxony to Transsylvania, apparently misunderstanding an order to "return to base".

There is a funny almost similar incident (I dont know if it was real or only invented) of misunderstanding from romanians.

During independence war from 1877 a romanian unit was resting behind our lines when a russian routed unit was retreating in haste after an unlucky fight with the turks. When they met the resting romanian unit, they shouted to them "Nazat!, Nazat!" ("Back! or Retreat!"). In that moment, romanians took the rifles and charged the village were the victorious turks were, beating them.

When romanians were asked why they charged the village without order, they said: "But we had orders! We were told by russians "La sat! La sat!", so we did so!"

There are many stories told by the elders, about their grand-grandfathers, Romanians who fought at battle of Sadova (1866) where Austrians were defeated by Prusians. This is known also like battle of Kronigratz, and Romanians spell it battle of "Caine cret" (kinky dog)
