QUOTE
Actually it is not. Gen. Mihail had forwarded his resignation several times before, as early as 7 September. On 12 October 1944, after Cluj and Oradea had been taken, he again resigned and it was approved.

You're right - he resigned after Cluj, not after Carei. Sorry, I mixed up the dates. My mistake.

Do you know the reason he wanted to resign so badly?

He was outraged by the way the Soviets were acting and because the Romanian armies had been subordinated to the Soviet 2nd Ukrainian Front.

If Gen. Mihail resigned on 12 October, why or how was he present in Carei on 25 October?

Furthermore, from what position did he personally report to king Mihai the liberation of the last Romanian town in Transylvania on 25 October (i.e., many days after his resignation was accepted)?

Today is the 60th anniversary of the battle for Carei which marked the completion of the liberation of Transylvania. Any opinions about this event?

Article in 'Adevarul' daily [in Rumanian only] on the commemorations at Carei, transformed into political campaign by the currently ruling party and the President of Rumania: Adevarul
