Buna ziua!

Im not sure if this forum is the place to ask for this kind of help. I dont want to sound disrespectful. I have visited this forum several times as I have an interest in WW2 History, mostly eastern european probably because of my language interests. Anyway, another interest I have is, like many of us history buffs is wargaming.

I have been working for some time on a game called Sudden Strike Arms for Victory. I have been modding in some nations that seem to be ridiculously ignored. Ive added Romanian units but unfortunately there are no voices provided in the game.

Eu vorbesc Romaneste nimic nu suficient. I am hoping that some folk on this forum might be able to record some simple soundfiles, just basic military stuff that I can then use in the mod.

I know some will think that making war into a game is not a good thing, but as I tell many people who ask that question, if everybody played wargames and realised how fragile lives are on a computer screen then they wouldnt be too quick to back politicians who want to cause wars.

Anyway, if anyone is able to help, that would be great.

Here's hoping.

I'm not a native speaker, but I'd be glad to help if I can. I'm often told my voice on the radio in Aces High sounds like I should be a DJ. smile.gif If you give me a script I can give it a shot.

I'm not familiar with the game, what type is it?

Thats fantastic, I am hugely indebted.

Well here we go,

The game contains infantry, artillery, aircraft, vehicle and ship units.

Infantry.

Orders recieved
Yes commander
Advance
mission accepted
mission succesful
enemy sighted
Im hit
Medic ready
Out of ammo

Tank

Unit selected
command accepted
advance
we are hit
out of ammo
fuel is almost gone
we are out of fuel

Artillery

Too far
Too close
fire point selected

Plane

Command accepted
Lets go
Lets get up there
I am low on fuel
Im hit

Some of these, for instance the unit selected etc, I can change in software to sound as if its from inside a tank or a plane.

Might be a few days until I can get them translated, recorded and sounding good enough for me to share, and hopefully you can get a few other folks to help out. Sounds kind of lame when everything sounds like the same guy. smile.gif

If I run into any problems, I'll let you know so you aren't waiting for something that never shows up.

Infantry = infanterie

Orders recieved
Yes commander = am înţeles (in romanian military there is no exact equivalent of "yes comander", "am înţeles" is rather "i understand" but has the same meaning as yes comander.
Advance = Înaintaţi
mission accepted = Misiune primită
mission succesful = Misiune îndeplinită cu succes
enemy sighted = Inamic observat
Im hit = Sunt rănit
Medic ready =
Out of ammo = Muniţia terminată

out of ammo = Muniţia terminată
fuel is almost gone = Carburant aproape terminat

Thats great, thankyou. My pronunciation is not good in Romanian. I had a g/f in Bucharest more than a decade ago and regularly visited Bucharest but my Romanian has gone downhill since those days.

If anyone could do these in MP3, WAV or similar popular format I would appreciate it very much. I am adding in some units for the military however the nature of the game is that at the minute we can add new infantry but can only repaint existing vehicles etc. I have done a couple of Romanian BF109's and infantry units.

Once these sounds are done I can make the whole thing far more realistic and at last have some realism in the game. There are so many nationalities totally neglected.

May I make a few suggestions tu improve the "flavor" of the translation?

Orders recieved: ordine recepţionate

Yes commander: wouldn't a romanian actually say "am înteles - să traiţi!"?

Advance: maybe it would be better to say: "Înainte!"

Medic ready: medic la post (it actually means: "medic on station", but "medic ready" would simply not sound well in Romanian.

I hope these translations are as close as possible to what a romanian would actually say.

QUOTE (21 inf @ January 27, 2009 03:56 pm)
command accepted = comandă acceptată

"Command/mission accepted" implies the luxury of not accepting the command/mission. biggrin.gif Maybe "command/mission received - ordin primit" would be more realistic.

QUOTE (21 inf @ January 27, 2009 03:54 pm)
Out of ammo = Muniţia terminată

Wouldn't it be more natural to say "Am terminat muniţia!" (literally: I've finished the ammo) or "S-a terminat muniţia" (There is no more ammo)?

These are fantastic guys, I am more than happy if you can change the stated comments to more realistic ones.

The game is obviously made by people who arent engish as when I listen to the English voices they sound silly and dont fit the scene. Its probably the same with some other nationalities too. As I am puttin these custom sounds into the game I much prefer to go with your suggestions rather than sticking to the game script which is awful.

I could desperately do with these in mp3 or similar format as my pronunciation in Romanian will sound wrong.
