This photo has recently been on sale on eBay. It is said to show a B-24 that has just returned from Operation Tidal Wave.

Thanks, i recently bhought a cd from Modelism.ro about 1 august 1943 and i see that romanians do not have allmost any film material about this event, just a few seconds of the flaming rafianries.

It contains two movies, first, the main movie, is a documentary made by TVR i think, it has some our days helicopter footage of the Ploiesti, it also contains some short takes made on Popesti-Leordeni showing romanian pilots making fun of the americans presance (they are coming on horses like the cowboys The movie is 26 minutes long. Is only one problem, it has english sub, and the writng is preaty big and it eats a lot of image The second movie is not about 1 august but just a general view about the romanians passion for flight. If you whant i can land you the cd. |

Thanks for your description. The one on http://www.modelism.ro/cdrom12.htm is unfortunately a bit dry.

Major Addison Bakker perished with the entire crew while insisting on the preflight breafing that if ever hit over the target he will dive into it with the liberator and its entire crew . His medals ,photos etc were donated by his French wife to a USAF museum in Florida

From the flight deck of the 93rd BG TUPELO LASS , Ray Wier's camera captures an exploding storage tank tank. Note the B-24 ahead banking away from the inferno which just occured over the G/A flack on Ploesti suburbs

Cipiamon, you have been here long enough to know the rules. The forum language is English and I hate translating what others write. You have a warning.

The photo may seem colored, because it was photocopied with teh digital camera. |
