I only quoted the book text. P wink.gif

The author was very close...
Wadi Halfa is in Sudan, but at the border with Egypt ! laugh.gif

Moreover, with the British in both countries in 1943 and Egypt and Sudan still colonies, maybe there was no border at that location.

Not to be pedantic, but Sudan got its independence from "Egypt" (full title "Sultanate of Egypt and Sudan" and later "Kingdom of Egypt and Sudan") in 1956. In 1943, there was no independent "Sudan" as such. Wadi Halfa WAS in "Egypt".
But does it really matter?

No, it does not matter.
Thank you again for your first answer.

Sorry. It seems I edited my previous post from August 21, instead of creating a new comment.
Now I cannot restore my previous post and I cannot delete this either.

Ju-88 with Romanian markings on sale on Ebay.
Sale ends tomorrow.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-Romanian-Junke...to/360446526405

The King Michael's Cross looks a bit different from what I saw on Romanian fighters.
Actually, it resembles with the markings as they are today in the Air Force Museum - Dayton, Ohio.
Maybe the American restoration team knew what they were doing.
HOWEVER... NOTE:
I see that on the tail is the same "105" as on the tail of plane in the Air Force Museum - Dayton, Ohio.
So I am wondering: Is this Ebay auction a hoax? In other words, does somebody try to sell the photo of the plane restored in Dayton, from the days when they showed it outdoors (now it is indoors) ?
Or the American restoration team had available this photo and they used it in their restoration work?

PS: Another Ebay link, for the same plane no. 105. from another angle:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-Romanian-Junke...o-/400285088760
Sale ends in 7 days

It's the same museum exhibit.

The seller notes: " I would presume this is a postwar photo of a captured aircraft."

Florin,I think two photos are original. I do not think Ebay auction is a hoax. Also I do not think the photos are restored. Also photo seller is a Top-rated seller. Also the photo seller has 99.8% Positive feedback. Ebay does not give Top-rate or 99.8 positive feed back for a bad seller. Florin,is there any proofs which prove Ebay auction of this photo seller is a haux?

Original as in "wartime"? No. Not a chance!
The crosses are the wrong shape and design.
Those photos on eBay depict the plane as it is today in the museum.

"warunasanjaya2727" made the effort to write to me (I appreciate), but he did not make the effort to read what Gen. Denes wrote just before him.

Hi everyone, new to your forum. Feels strange replying to a discussion started 10 years ago, but here goes. Denes, this is more addressed to you as you seem more knowledgable on this specific subject. I understand you have succesfully published a book, and you have my congratulations for that. I am working on a book on the aviation history of Cyprus. This specific Ju88 holds a special interest as it landed at my hometown of Limassol. My ultimate aim is to locate photos of this ju88 actually on Cyprus, and I think you mentioned somewhere on one of older posts that you had seen such photos ? Can you point me in the right direction ? My records of the maintainance unit that handled the refuelling and change of markings on the Ju88 indicate that the aircraft was on Cyprus for five days before being flown to Heliopolis, four days at Limassol, and another at Nicosia,(where the markings were changed and the oil was drained and changed), before being flown off on the 27th, so its logical that there was plenty of official and unofficial photo opportunities.

Also you mention, way back, that you had the interrogation report. Where did this come from ? I have researched many years at the archive in London (PRO) and never come across this. Will be visiting again soon so would be interested to look it up, although this is not as important as finding the photos. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and on the subject of museums, you should visit the RAF museum in London where they have the UK's Ju88. Wonderful place.

There was an article in Model Aircraft Feb 2012. The earliest photograph is of poor quality and shows it fitted with two P-38 drop tanks for ferrying. Send me your email address and I will forward you a copy ofthe article if you wish.

Hello,

If you're looking for photos, those are located most probably in the USA.
There are several of them published, where the USAAF markings are about to be painted on, or are painted freshly (I remember seeing the ARR serial number 1 still on the fin).
I suggest trying the NARA, or the air museum at Dayton.
Good luck, and keep us updated.

Petre, those photos show the plane as it is today, in the wrong colours and wearing spurious markings. Those crosses are inaccurate, the camouflage colours do not even match the original colours. It is an abomination.

Here is some info about the "ferry scheme":
