Dear friends,

By the beginning of the XIXth Century (arround 1820) existed this "Hungarian Geographical Service" (maybe the translation is not quite exactly); although I tried to find something about it on internet, I could not find anything. Does anybody know which were its atributions, where was its heaquarters, any other details...

Thanks a lot,

Cipri

If you could give us the original Hungarian name [perhaps Magyar (Királyi?) Földrajzi Szolgálat?], then we could be more successful in identifying this particular service.

I know nothing about the Hungarian Geographical Service, but I think you search for the Hungarian Geographical Society(Magyar Földrajzi Társaság), but they started their works in 1872.

HGS webpage

Unfortunately the page is only Hungarian, but if my not enought good to translate too many things from it. Better if use this site for the translate, and if something is not clear ask here in the forum, or write to me, and i try to translate.

website translator Hungarian to English, English to Hungarian

Unfortunately, I do not know the exact name, but I know for sure that a colonel named Pulzer made the cartography of the Oituz (Ojtoz) valley and he was member of this service in 1821 (absolutely sure). I knew about the Hungarian Geographical Society(Magyar Földrajzi Társaság) but I do not think it is the same. Anyway, thanks a lot!
