All I know is that Susurlu hill is near Turtucaia fortifications and it was a battle there in Romanian independece war 1877-1878. I have a souvenir token, with engraved text over a 2 lei 1881 coin: SUSURLU - 19 SEPT-1877.
I am very curious about this place, and the date in connection. Thanks in advance! |

As far as I know, Susurlu was not near Turtucaia, but rather a village close to Plevna, NE of the fortified city. The village was immediately North of the Ottoman fortifications of Opanez. Susurlu was assaulted and conquered on 29 Oct/10 Nov 1877 by the 1st Vanatori Battalion and a battalion from the 5th Dorobanti Regiment, as part of the Siege of Plevna.
