What exactly does "NMS" stand for? Was it an official term or simply a convenient prefix?

NMS= Nava Maiestatii Sale (translated His Majesty's Ship)
It was an offical designation, just like in the Royal Navy.

Thanks, that's exactly the info I was looking for. British sources give all sorts of prefixes to foreign ships, like "HMNethS." As if the Dutch had to be told it was a Netherlands ship!

It is either the NMS Regele Ferdinand of the Regina Maria. I think though it is Ferdinand.

Yes, there is also a red star on the sailor's headgear. Could it be a captured hat?
The other soldiers appear to be Rumanian (see different helmet styles), except maybe for the guy at right, with thick moustache and goggles, who appears to wear Soviet style shoulder epaulette (two horizontal lines, meaning higher officer?).
