C'mon Mihnea, you have ruined my little "riddle"....
![]() ![]() ![]() Anyway I bought it, like I said before, like a curiosity. I mean, you have to admitt that it is very well manufactured. Leather straps, good quality aluminum, a lot of similarities with the original canteen (in the left side of the first picture, the original ww2 german canteen). I have to admitt though, that I have never seen smth like it before.... ![]() This post has been edited by ANDI on October 26, 2006 08:17 pm |

The question still stands.
Who is "capable" of such a manufacture? A good quality, innovative (see the differences between the two canteens) reproduction. And smth. tell me that this is no intention to fool the unexperienced buyers... Well? |

I think that the canteen is some sort of a romanian experimental model because:
The leather is similar to the one used on some post war canteens also the buckles are chromed there is no sewed leather only rivets attach the pieces of leather; all these elements can be find on Romanian post war canteens. The cup is a copy of the german m1893 cup (made in WWI for the german army and in the late '30s and the early '40s for politic and paramilitary units) but it was never suposed to be attatched to the canteen (didn't had the aluminium loop for the strap on one side). The WWII Romanian aluminum canteens had similar attaching chain and S hook on the top of the bottle cap. Also the felt is similar in color and the fastners are similar to those used un this canten: ![]() (picture posted by claudiu1988 here: http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?sh...st=0&hl=canteen ) The communist era canteen (notice the leather and the buckle): ![]() |

Don't get me wrong I’m not saying that is home made, its factory made but it is Romanian, in my opinion, because it incorporates design elements specific to other Romanian canteens.
How ever it might not be made for the military, but for civilian use, because the cup ears would make a lot of noise (hitting the aluminum cup) when it is worn. PS Where did you bought it? |

I bought it from the net. Source: okazii.ro..."camping" section. A guy was selling only one piece. This post has been edited by ANDI on October 28, 2006 08:30 pm |
