Are you referring to the famous pro-Bolshevik warship, which fired on the Czar's Winter Palace on Nov. 7, 1917, sparking the 'October Revolution'?

NMS Aurora was built in 1909 at the Taranto shipyard. It had 273 tons, 49 m length, 7.92 m width, 2x500 HP engines and a maximum speed of 20 knots.

During WW1, it served as a minelayer in the Austrian navy as KuK Basilisk. It saw action in the Adriatic Sea, laying minefields in the Cattaro and Otranto areas.

After the war, it was given to France, which renamed it "Aurore" and sold it to Romania in 1922. It was renamed again as "NMS Aurora" and served as a minelayer until 1927. One year later it was sold to the SRD shipping company.

In 1939 it was converted again as a minelayer and fitted with 40 mines and two 13.2 mm MGs. After the Soviet ultimatum in 1940, the Romanian navy decided to mine the mouths of the Danube in order to prevent the Soviet navy from entering the delta. Under the command of Lt-cdr. Baicu Stan, Aurora was one of the ships that executed this mission. It layed more mines in the area in January 1941.

After Romania declared war on the Soviet Union, Aurora layed its last minefield in the Sulina area on 27-28 June 1941. On 28 June it was attacked by enemy airplanes in the Sulina harbour and severely damaged, with the loss of 4 crew members. While under repairs at Ceamurlia, Aurora was again attacked on 15 July (this time by 11 SB bombers), hit by 3 bombs, and sunk.
