Defense Budget, data

OK guys, we talked about new aquisitions lately, from subs to planes. Some complained we dont have the money, others said the defense budget already eats up a lot of money that could be used for other things.
Last night I saw on the news a budget supplement being issued for all ministries. All numbers were given, except the ones for the defense budget. They only said "and the defense budget also received a budget supplement", but didnt ellaborate.
Does ayone have any clear data about the Defense Budget (even before the supplement)? I found some, but its pretty unclear, and its pretty big...

Actually I found some data:

Defense - 1,7 billion $
Health - 393 million $
Transport and Construction - 1,4 billion $
M.A.I. - 1,3 billion $
Education - 1,1 billion $
Water Works - 219 million $

Obviously the guys in charge think the nation's health is not a matter of defense/security... And what can I say about water works... the floods in both this and last year will cost us above 3 billion $. Do you think they'll think to put some pork into that budget? Naah....

Personaly,I am extremely impressed with the Education budget.If the numbers are correct,then we should see some improvments. As for the water works, I think the amount of money is not that important. What is really important is the quality of the works.I am sure that if there was a bigger need, the Water Works would get the biggest budget.We are very sentimental
Defense,well,I am a bit worried now. There was an article somewhere ( I think Gandul,thus you will have to take this info with a lot of salt) where they posted the operations costs in Afganistan and Irak. And they come somewhere around 1.0-1.5 bilion. But I think this money didn't came from budget only (there's somehow 50/50 "alternative" sources). And I also think that we will reduce the forces there. For us , is much more important that there is peace in Balkans, not in Afghanistan.

No, I think they lost their minds. I think it was Gandul where I also read a Grippen costs 1 billion $ so put a lot of salt... make it a truck full of salt. Marinate them...

Interesting document. It seems (unless I'm wrong) that we had less money spend in 2005 than in 2004.

In today's press conference, the Minister of Defense when asked about the ongoing modernisation and acquirement programs, gave these details about their cost for each arm:

Land Forces - 1 bn. euro
Air Forces - 4,4 bn. euro
Navy - 7,4 bn. euro

He also said the military budget will make up 2,3% of GDP and vowed to keep it above 2% while he is in office. Oh, and he also said he wants a NEW fighter jet, not a second hand one!

What happened with that deal (worth cca 200 mil USD) with the Israelis (for the 2nd hand F16) ? I just read somewhere that is still going.I guess it was EvZ.

if the sum of all arms, 12,8 bn € is 2.3%, that'd mean the GDP (nominal) would be 556 bn €.
that's a bit less than the GDP of the Netherlands.

he probably meant 12,8 bn RON.

Romanian GDP is somewhere around 100bn (don't know if USD or EUR)

The data I posted is correct, but these programs are not meant to be done in one year.

then it looks like one of the famous "five year plans", because this is how long it's gonna take with a maximum expense of 2.3% of GDP.

i also wonder what jet he's gonna buy for 4.4 bn

that's PPP adjusted. this is usefull for comparations but not for determining budgets as there "real $/€" will have to be spend.
