Look what I found:
Hauptman Wilhelm Steinmann 15/1/1912 1/Jg 27 Channel Front. First vic:18/5/43-RAF Tyfhoon over the channel. Secont vic: 1/6/43-RAF Spitfire. Third vic: 1/6/43-BF 109 G6 WN 16391 flown by Gruppenkomandeur of....1/JG 27 Haupt.Erich Hogaen (56vic. RK),had to bail out and severly wonded. Then WS was EXILED to Romania!!!!At the middle of Juin. At 1/8/43 he had 2 vic against the USAAF (B-24) 14:01 near Bucharest,14:28 Ogregini?????? Somehow I don't think that Romania was such a bad place for a Luftw.pilot... |

Ovidius was also exiled to Tomi, so he was not the only outcasted
Actually, it was not a single accident. The most famous friend-killing action was in the Lutwaffe fighters on 26 March, 1945, when Oblt. Wilhelm Hofmann, cdr. of the 5./JG 26 was downed by his wingman (and killed). |

Were these by accident or on purpose?

I guess we'll never know...
Anyway one of Adolf's Galland brothers, also shoot down and killed a camarad. I wonder if such accidents happened also in the ARR? |

Yes, they did. For example, a Bf 109E pilot, Ioan Tolan, shot down an I.A.R. 39 "with no markings (actually, he did not recognise them), that acted strangely (to him)" a few days before the Aug. '44 coup d'état. There were no fatalities, though. Rumanian pilots also shot occasionally at Luftwaffe airplanes, and vice versa. Unfortunately, such "friendly fire" type of incidents happened in all air forces... Dénes |

That particular incident apparently happened on April 5, 1944.
Here is what I have in my ARR Losses Database: Apr. 5 Bf 110F+ Esc. 1 van. noapte slt. Boris Capbatut, adj. mitr. Popa+ Ploiesti V. acc. doborit in eroare de IAR 80, Lt. Barbic [sic!] (poate Adj. Barbici?). Mitralior decapitat de ampenaj [translation: shot down in error by an IAR 80, piloted by Lt. Barbic [sic!]. The radio operator decapitated by the vertical stabilizer after bailing out]. Hmm, very strange,
http://www.luftwaffe.cz/steinmann.html : 4. 1.8.1943 14:28 B-24 1./JG 4 Ogregini There is no "Ogregini" near Bucharest only Ogrezeni, and there is been only one crash that day, the one scored by Ghica who died in the same fight becouse his me110 was damaged and his parashute did not open. Is this some kind of a mixup? |

It is very simple. The Axis pilots and AA gunners overclaimed. As I already told you there was another Romanian claim in the vicinity of Ogrezeni.

i asked many old people about that crash, and they said it was only ONE crash in the Ogrezeni or vecinety. Maby i'll go this weekend and investigate some more :?
They only talked about the liberator and the plane that crashed in Bolintin. The crash of the liberator was very popular in Bolintin because it flew close over Bolintin in flames, and everybody rushed to Ogrezeni to see what happenned. |

This is what overclaiming means: claiming more than was actually shot down. It was pretty common.

So oficialy the liberator from Ogrezei is a victory atribuited to Ghica, not Hauptman.
