What colors/pattern were used on the upper surfaces? Was it the standard grey or was it repainted green like the mottling on the side? Or was the mottling grey as well, and the profile I'm looking at incorrect?

The camouflage colours of '227' were shades of grey, not green.

The above profile was copied by the Russians [http://www.airwar.ru] directly from my book on ARR, published by Squadron/Signal. Apparently, during scanning the colours shifted to greenish, but the original artwork featured only grey colours.

So standard RLM splinter camo with heavy mottling in the darker gray? Thanks Denes, I'll post a pic in a few days. smile.gif

While I'm at it, what was the number on his Emil? I've seen at least three different ones ,all with the same noseart. And did the Emil have the Donald insignia? I've seen profiles both with and without.

Hi Treize,
The camouflage of White 227 is very complex. The nose had some very distinctive mottles that are different from the mottles on the fuselage. There are at least two types of mottles on the fuselage: they are wide and loose under the cockpit, they get denser towards the tail.

Here is my interpretation of it. http://homepage.eircom.net/~radub/Gallery/...ai%20Fetito.htm

The wings werer painted in a splinter pattern of RLM 75/76. The fuselage was mottled with RL74/75/76 and some RLM02. The nose mottles are RLM02 and the space between the mottles is RLM74. There is a photo on page 48 of the bool "Les Messerschmitt Bf109 Roumains". It is unclear in the photo whether the upper part of the spine was painted in a splinter pattern or mottles - I painted mine in a splinter pattern.

I cannot claim that the painting of my model is 100% accurate, but I had fun doing it. biggrin.gif

The number on Dicezare Bf -109 E3 is "yellow9" and has Donald Duck emblem ( as all romanian Bf109E from 7thFG ).

The wing pattern cammo on the wings is wrong.
The spinner should be 1/3 white and 3/4 black (or dark green)
Stencils should be in german ( not in romanian)

The spinner paint scheme and Werk nr. 14045 is wrong on this color profile.
Corect spinner paint is 1/3 white and 3/4 black ( or dark green)
Corect Werk nr is 14646.

Wow, excellent help, thank you!

I'll post screenshots when I am done, but work on the 109G is progressing slowly. The Emil is coming along well though.
