Hi Bogdan,

For modeling did you use a sim engine ( like il2-FB engine) or a 3D computer programe.

Definitely a 3D tool. IL2 have no IAR39 nor 3D tools to make one. Could be FS2004/X-Plane or simply 3DMax or other

Il2-FB have no IAR 39 included now.
But I saw a 3D work with IAR 39 special made for Il2-FB. That why I asked.
And I remember the "LIV" emblem from a Il2-Sturmovik as virtual squadron emblem.

Yes, cuski began once this but I believe it will never be included in Olegs' plans. However, I might be wrong. ATM IAR39 is not even on the non-flyable aircrafts in IL2-FB. As for "LIV" I am not sure, I thought that Escadrila 54 never existed. There was once a site escadrila54.com , but it does not exist anymore. Quite interesting site was that one.

By contrary, there were cases when I.A.R. 39s had yellow upper wingtips, as shown in the artwork above.

109 might be right. My model is 'unreal' (check the number on the tail: 018). I saw these yellow upper wingtips in one of TLM's (Theodor Liviu Morosanu) artworks. But, in fact, it was an IAR-38. (Stupid me, I saved the pictures, but I forgot to mark the website... Maybe somebody could help me.)

109 might be right.

Mr. 1-0-9 is wrong (this time).

As I said, there were I.A.R. 39s with the upper wingtips painted in yellow.
Check, for example, the photo seen on page 66, bottom, of my book on ARR, published by Squadron/Signal. It shows No. 96/S flying over the Black Sea.

Hi Denes,

When did the use of yellow wing tips, engine cowlings and fuselage rings stop and why?

I would imagine that most aircraft deployed operationally in 1941 probably had these universal Axis Eastern Front recognition features, but by 1943 they seem nowhere to be much in evidence on new types.

Also, why was a different recognition colour, White, adopted by Axis aircraft in the Mediterranean?

Cheers,

Sid.
