Slightly off topic:

Looking at some of the construction techniques in practise in Romania today God help Romania if a big earthquake was to hit again, for sure one place I would not want to be is Bucharest.

In case a big earthquake will strike Bucharest the main problem are those buildings that was build until 1964. I you want to see a detailed list of high risk buildings from Bucharest in case of a big earthquake, you cand download it from here: High risk buildings in Bucharest

For Alexro

There are some slight mistakes in your full fledged contribution about Block Carlton.
1. Architect's correct name is GEORGE MATEI Cantacuzino (G. M. Cantacuzino), not GHEORGHE N. Cantacuzino.
2. After the deadly earthquake of November 10, 1940 - when Carlton Block caved in - he was found not guilty by the special commission set up by the Antonescu-Horia Sima government.

QUOTE

The architect was one of the most important Romanian architects of all times, and believe it or not, he was the youngest VOLUNTEER in WW1. List of his works is quite impressive and his family connections are incredible. He was not jailed by the Legionaries, he volunteered to be sent to the Russian front, and after WW2 he was jailed by the Communists, being declared "an enemy of the Romanian people".
