Ahile, do you know, who was this particular order awarded to initially? In other words, the name of the officer who was decorated with it.

You may be able to verify the authenticity this way. For instance, I know for a fact that the majority of Gen. Avramescu's medals and orders are at the bottom of a lake somewhere, including all his 3 Mihai Viteazul Orders (3rd class, 2nd class, and 3rd class with swords model 1944) as well as his DKiG.

I know this 100% because my grandfather and grandmother threw them in a lake some time in 1949-1950.

The only (more minor) ones that survived are in my possession: Star of Romania, Crown of Romania, Slovakian War Victory Cross 1st class, with Great Officer Badge and Grand Cross with Collar, etc.

Therefore, I know for a fact that anyone who claims that he possesses Avramescu's Mihai Viteazul 2nd class, for instance, is either lying or is misinformed and has a fake.

For rare awards, you could try to follow the same path to determine whether the seller is lying or telling the truth.

Good luck in your search.
