I have some questions about Mărăşti and Mărăşeşti, formerly the Italian Sparviero and Nibbio. First, can you tell me the precise correct spelling of the original Romanian names, Vijelie (Vijelia) and Vartej (Vartei)? Second, can you tell me the meanings of these four Romanian names?
Thanks much. |

The destroyer names are spelled correctly. They represent two major Romanian victories during 1917 on the Moldavian front. (more details on the battles here http://www.thirdreichforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=6905).
Vijelia is also spelled correctly and it means The Storm The correct spelling is Vârtej and it means Whirlwind. |
