I am looking for info on a certain Russian ace, vetran of the war in Spain, named "Lev L'vovich "Shestakov". (Lev Shestakov) callsign 'Sokol 1' (Falcon 1).. Source: http://www.tarrif.net/wwii He flew a La-5FN similar to this one towards the end of the war. In a furious turning fight (vertical banking at treetop altitude), he was pursuing a Stuka flown by the famous Hans Ulrich Rudel. After a very hard turn the La-5 crashed, and this 46 victory ace was killed. Source: [IMG]http://aces.boom.ru/
I'm looking for more about the pilot as well as what Number the plane he was flying and what it looked like. This post has been edited by Victor on February 08, 2005 06:52 am |

Have you read this article of Christer Bergstrom on the encounter?
http://www.elknet.pl/acestory/shesta/shesta.htm Lev Shestakov was a member of 69 IAP that faced the Romanian fighter units in 1941 at Odessa and he had claimed several Romanian aircraft shot down. Please mention the sources of your photographs in the future. |

I read the article of course, a long time ago... That quote is from elknet... http://www.elknet.pl/acestory/shesta/shesta.htm I went as far as typing in Cyrilic, Shestakov's name (Лев шестаков), and searching the web with that.. and translate all i can find.. I was trying to find what plane he flew (#) and what it looked like. This post has been edited by Der Maresal on February 08, 2005 07:26 pm |
