On 30 May 1945, the reservists of the Air Corps were released from duty and sent home. At the beginning of June the 1st Bomber Group was brought to Piestany in Czechoslovakia from Miskolc in Hungary. The Romanian Air Corps remained at Piestany and Trencin until 5 July 1945, when it was ordered by the Soviet command to return to Romania. We strayed off-topic.

Victor, thanks for posting the follow up on Guns story. Part of this story an more on details is on the book called ESCAPE FROM PLOESTI , the single thing I couldnt find out in that book was the date when his B-24 was downed over Roumania. Victor just for a second out of topic , I post you the ranks of ARR which I found in on my books called Air Forces Badges of WWII......I think some of the roumanian ranks are not correct and missing such as pilot and airmen ranks

Yes, by hastinmg it up, so that the Red Army doesn't get its hands on the former Allied POWs.  The operation took place between 1 and 3 September. The Red Army entered Bucharest one day before. I seriously doubt the Soviets had anything t odo with the planning and execution of the transports. |

Victor your are absolutely right the Red Army had nothing to do with operation Reunion but it made it easier for the OSS coordinators at Popesti Leordeni to be there and coordiante safe arrivals of the 15th AF planes knowing the germans were running out for their lives,. Victor do you recognise the street on the photos were the american manufactured jeeps driven by the Russians were showing up ? I think is near to the Hotel Ambsador if still exists by now ...I was borned and lived my childhood on Bulevardul 6, Martie until 1963
