Great medals bar !!!
From Museum ?

Hallo,

This beautiful set of Romanian Medals recently sold on Ebay Germany for over 900 Euros ohmy.gif ohmy.gif biggrin.gif

What drove the price high was the two Russian medals wink.gif

The only things I thought odd was there was no medal of Victory for WW1 on the bar?? The original owner would certainly have been entitled to one, and the last medal was the Civil service version with the Romanian royal coat of Arms on the rear instead of the lettering.

How do I know that? I hear you ask blink.gif

The reverse photo was posted on the original auction tongue.gif

Lieutenant General. I can not read the signature of the Generals name. A very large photo dated Dec, 28, 1930. On the back is written "Died July 12, 1936". This General was awarded and wears on his uniform the Breast Star of Saint Stanislav 1st class with swords, Order of Saint Stanislav with swords 1st or 2nd class, the Order of Saint Vladimir with swords 3rd or 4th class, and the order of Saint Anne 3rd or 4th class. Also what is interesting is his polish buttons. You can see the photographer in them taking the Generals photo.

The Order of the Star has been awarded to Capt. Chiriţescu Ştefan of the 30th Infantry Regiment for the bravery with which he led his company in the fights at Dealul Porcului (Pig Hill - Hill 528) on 16-21 August 1917. Continuously in the midst his unit he has bloodily repelled the 12 fierce attacks of the enemy who had wanted to break the front at that point. Being wounded three times on the 21 August 1917 he had continued to stay on positions maintaining the command of his company until nightfall.

I have found a reference to King Carol I receiving the second class of the Russian Order of St George. Thus, on 5 September 1877 he had received the third class of the order for "the excellent deeds in the war with the Turks". Then, on 29 November 1877 he had received the second class of the order "for the conquest of the Plevna stronghold and the capture of Osman Pasha's army on 28 November 1877". On the same date he had also received the collar of the Russian Order of St. Andrew.

I have found the information on a Russian site on the Order of St. George. I admit the possibility that it could be an error, but on the other hand the site seems pretty well informed. I think the final proof would be a copy of the award records or a photo of the name plates in the St. George Hall.

So what? He could have received the star, but chose not to wear it.
