I've read this magazine about Operation Halpro and they said that the americans used to train in the desert with models of the fefinerys. I think they took off from the Benghazi complex in northern Libya.
1 How many aircraft where shot down by the romanian AA guns? 2 Where the american aircraft B-24's (or B-17's)? |

Operation Halpro was a different thing (see here: http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4997). It took place on 12 June 1942. You are referring to Operation Tidal Wave. In total 36 B-24D wrecks were counted on Romanian soil. Others crashed in Bulgaria of in the sea and many more made emergency landings in Turkey or other parts. Information about the raid is pretty easy to find on the web, as it was one of the most glamorous USAAF actions of the war, with several CMOs and DFCs awarded.

Both Operation Halpro of 1942 and Operation Tidal Wave of 1943 employed B-24 bombers. |

Yes, it seems I made a misteak:
- Operation Tidal Wave was the bombing on Ploiesti. Sorry. |

Operation Halpro also involved the bombing of Ploesti, but it was carried out with ten times less bombers than Tidal Wave and is thus less known. |

Yes, of course but I was talking about the main bombing of the reffinerys. Operation HALPRO (about which I just read on a site) was only a small raid and did not inflict as much damage as TIDAL WAVE. |
