On August 26, 1944, the first armoured units of the Soviet Army penetrated into Northern Transylvania through the Uz Valley (Valea Uzului), in the Eastern Carpathians. A bitter fight ensued between Soviet tanks and mounted infantry and the local Hungarian/Székely defenders, who were overgunned and outnumbered.

Over 150 Hungarian soldiers and civilians died in the battle.

Now, 60 years later, a memorial was erected on the site of the clash (source: DunaTV):
