Probably the next day he was taken out of his hospital bed and handed over to the Soviets, as was the case with wounded Germans that happened to be in Romania during this unfortunate time period after 23 August.

As Aerialls noted, WIA is Wounded in Action. RK-Träger is Ritterkreuzträger, i.e. bearer of the Knight's Cross. B means Bruch, i.e. crash. F means Feindflug, or combat sortie. I must use abbreviations in my table, to reduce the amounf of typing. Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on October 05, 2004 02:33 pm |

My original sources for Sachenberg's shot down were a book by Niko Fast on JG 52, vol. IV, p.128 txt. as well as another book by Obermaier on RK-Träger, p. 191.
I checked the recently published authoritative book on II./JG 52, by Bernd Barbas and he confirms the date in the loss list published on p. 320. Additionally, he gives the crash location as Pl.Qu. 86522, located North of Rand Reni (?). Gen. Dénes |

Lt. Sachsenberg's Gustav was hit in air battle with Airacobras on June 3, 1944. He crash landed on Jassy (Iasi) airfield. Maybe the web-site owner confused these two incidents. Gen. Dénes |
