This book is very interesting and describes numerous encounters and epic battles of the Airwar.

A detailed (and horrific) death of Serbanescu and Ciocanel are described in the book. Plane plunging to earth in flames, ...pilot stuck unable to free himself, trying desperately to pull his leg free but he can't, flames burning, then takes the chance of his life..and pulls the parachute cord but is there enough height.... :?
Perhaps he can be added to the growing pilots list of arr.go.ro/pilots.
that would be appreciated.

Can Anyone offer any information about a WW2 bomber pilot named Captain Mingea Marian ? I recently aquired a collection from his estate. Uniform, visor, several training flying manuals, navigation calculator, military photos, badges. I would like to know the history of this man and the unit he was in. I beleive he may have served in the 5th Bomber Group judging by the planes in the photos.

That's all I could find quickly about him (as the ARR loss list is the only one digitized). I might have other info scattered in my notebooks, but I have to find some time for that...

As for his final rank, only his personal file has that info.

P.S. Any interesting airplane photo, with the tail numbers visible?

Here is an interesting document. It is an automobile drivers license issued by the Ministry of the Interior in Bucharest Feb 21, 1944 to an Air Force Engineer Lieutenant Bogdan Moucha. Anyone know the history of this person ?

Any one know the history of this person ? Air Force Lieutenant Constantin Fotta. This book is a Brevet book issued by the Ministry of the Army - Inspector General of Aeronautics. It has several award stamps in the book. As a 2nd Liuetenant in Sept 15, 1923, Fotta was awarded the Observers badge #215. Oct 12, 1929, as a Lieutenant, he was awarded the Pilots badge #784. Dec 5, 1930, he was awarded for Personal Navigation. (Was there ever a badge for this award - Personal Navigation ????). All of the awards in the book have the personal signature of the Inspector General of the Air Force.

Constantin Fotta book opened up. Book has additional pages as you flip through it. This photo shows the awards for the Pilots and the Observers badges.

I also have his autobiography. However, I could not confirm any of his victory claims, nor participation in events he described.

I'd suggest to handle his claims with caution.

Anyone know who this person is ? Lieutenant Commander Chermanescu, Commanding officer of the Air Force Engineering Detachment, Air Force General Staff in Russia. I found a very interesting personal diary of daily events in combat operations while in Russia. The book is entitled "Note de Campanie, 16 Sept. 1942 - 3 Jan. 1943. It is a bound book with type written pages and original photos inserted throughout. It would be nice to post entire book on this site. However, it is about 100 pages.

This is an interesting threat that should be 'kept alive' for a little while longer.

Regarding the newly added Florin (or Florian?) Alexiu, I wanted to find out some more information about him like
What type of Aircraft(s) he flew, and it's serial number. Also how was his aircraft painted, or those in his unit and if he had any personal markings/paintings on it. Who was his wingman, and with what other pilots he flew. Finally a photograph would help alot, even a small one ...
Any additional information on him would be grately appreciated.

Well, look in the units section for the 8th Fighter Group and you will find out that it operated IAR-80s.
