Hello!

This is my first post here. Looking through the past posts I have discivered some amazing information that I could not have found in English anywhere else. many thanks!

I am particulalry interested in the Romanaian gunboats and their operations. I know the German Schellboot and Italian MAS boast were very active agaianst the soviet light forces but what about the Romanian ones?

I understand that the Romanian Destroyers were mostly used for convoy escort, but have yet to find any detail on the gunboats and monitors.

This is part of a work I am writing on the fascinating Naval campaign in the Black sea for wargaming purposes (which I will be happy to share for comment when finished)

Many thanks in advance for any information you can provide

Paul

The gunboats were also used for convoying and there was no clash with the Soviet surface fleet. In fact, during the entire war, only twice did Romanian and Soviet ships engage into battle: one was between destroyers and one between Soviet gunboats and a Romanian torpedo boat.

Really? Did you have any further details on these engagements? I would be very interested in the specifics of these clashes.

It seems as though the Romanian Navy, which fought alone in the first part of the Black Sea campaign, was really ignored by the Kriegsmarine operations planners once they and the Italians got into the theatre.

This seems incredible given the skills shown by the Romanian Navy in fighting a vastly superior Soviet Force with predominantly antiquated equipment.

There is a description of one of the battles in the Operations section, in the article about the Bessarabian campaign in 1941.
