No, they did not. There were however special insignias for officers who served in a particular unit (regiment or mountain battalion) at least 7 years.

Do you have any idea why they did not? I ask partly because I know that British, US and German divisions did.

What markings were use to identify equipment as belonging to a particular division?
Were any markings used to distinguish regiments?

Yet again thank you for all efforts Victor

Would you or anybody have photos/illustrations of these particular insignas? Thanks again.

I do not know why they did not have.

To identify the trucks, cars etc, the circulation numbers were used. Some regiments had special markings on their cars, like a stork for the 2nd Heavy Artillery Regiment (my grandfather's unit in 1941). Others had triangles, squares and circles of different colors. These were painted mainly on trucks and other equipment.

I have two illustrations of these kind of badges: one for the 4th Infantry Regiment Ilfov and one for the 7th Mountain Battalion Ioan Buteanu

do you know if such markings were a unit based ad hoc system or a formal army wide system?

Would it be possible to start a sticky to show any units with such badges? I would be very interested in such details.

I have seen pics of an R-2 with Gewrman style tactical numbers on its turret. How frequently were such numbers used?

It is Sfantul-Gheorghe (Saint George), patron of the army... It is not a divisional insignia, after what I know.

I also saw this picture in Mark Axworthy's book "Third Axis Fourth Ally"...

It may be a cavalry unit equipped with R-1 light tanks (for recognition missions).
