As one goes on the road from Zalău toward Cluj-Napoca, on the right side of the road, a few kilometers before entering village Sânmihaiu Almaşului from Sălaj county, there it is a few hundred meters from the road a monument. No inscription says what this monument represents or to whom is dedicated. The general look of the monument is mediocre, with some inscription vandalised.

The access is on a wooden small gate. All the perimeter is closed with wooden fence, the pedestrian access and the monument itself.

At half way on the pedestrian access it is a first construction which looks like a fountain, wearing the inscription "Egalitate", "Frăţietate", "Naţionalitate", "Libertate" as can be seen in the pictures below.













After the "fountain" there is a bridge, the one in the photo bellow:



At the end of the pedestrian access there it is the monument itself, consisting in a stone monument and a wooden cross. The stone monument has the inscription "Ţineţi cu poporul toţi ca să nu rătăciţi", a quotation from 1848 romanian revolutionary Simion Bărnuţiu.

Surounding the monument there it is a large piece of land marked with wooden fence and on this piece of land there are some cement delimitation, some tens of meters long and some meters wide, similar to those seen in romanian ww2 military cemeteries.



Now, the question is what is this monument? Except the inscriptions mentiones above, which might indicate a dedication of the monument to 1848-1849 romanian revolution from Transylvania, there it is no any other information for the visitor. Even the inscriptions are not a clear clue for the identification of the purpose of the monument, as the constructor's ideas are not known to me.

I have no clue if this is only marking the place of some romanian gathering in 1848 like the one from Blaj or there it is actually a cemetery, giving the large piece of land surounding the monument and the cement delimitations.

Any information or proper identification is more than welcome!

I found, unintentionally, what represents the monument described above.

It is the place were Simion Bărnuţiu died on 28 May 1864. He was badly ill and he was heading toward his birth place, Bocşa village, Sălaj county, Transylvania, coming from Moldova.

The place is called Fântâna Gorgana.

Simion Bărnuţiu was the political leader of transylvanian romanians in 1848-1849 revolution.

Quite an interesting discovery! It is so nice to learn about Romanian History!
