Nice start, Yogi, of covering a not well covered war theatre.

Two quick notes regarding the air war: the date for the force comparison is not specified.
Also, it's hard to believe the Axis fighters had 2 1/2 time air superiority over the Soviets.
Further research is needed.

Denes, the date is below the table

"Strength comparison between soviet and Axis Air Forces in the Southern Ukraine, January 1944 "

For the soviets, it was from the site which you can find at 12oclock high, german numbers are from sturmvogel.com .

One error I made is that I counted in the german units on the Crimea, I think II./JG52 and some Schlachtfliegers also. So take off ca. 20-30 from both these types of aircraft. Thanks for the hint!

PS: I also found that surprising...

Today there is a further update; topic is "Bessarabia - 1st battle of Targul Frumos" and the Dnestr-bridgeheads of the Red Army.

Enjoy Reading!

PS: If anyone has informations on the bases of involved soviet air units during April '44 - I would be happy to add this information rolleyes.gif

This part of the WW2 was named as "The Uman - Botoshani Offensive" It is described on some russian sites, texts, memoryes. Useful sites :

Thank you Synergy. Very good site as already said! I look to the "Heeresgruppe SudUkraine spring-summer 1944 Часть 8" where the beginning of august 1944 is covered. But the copy is unclear so I need you help! If you can see and write the armored (german) formations of the 6th Army equipped with tanks and StuG and the number of the available vehicles I'll be very thankfull! Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance synergy,
It's about page 8, where a table called Einsatzbereite Pak-Panzer u StuGesch der 6 Armee (Battle-ready tanks and SP Guns of the 6th Army) for 25.07.1944 (now I'm a bit disappointed because I had the impression that the situation was for 10.08.1944, but I guess the changes were not big!) impressed me much. I try for some time to figure out the exact TO&E of all armoured&mechanized formations of the Axis (Romanian, German) at the start of Iasi-Chisinau soviet offensive! That means not only the divisions but also the StuG-Brigades or Battalions or SP Antitank Guns or so...
Thanks for your help synergy!

Yeah, indeed! Don't forget to share - this archive searching is quite difficult, especially for those (like me) who do not have advanced levels in German language! tongue.gif
Although, to be honest, I'm interested only in 1941's data...
