| Just came across a fragment of text that states that in the two years of purges (1937-1938), were killed four times more Soviet generals that during 1941-1945 :!:
Were replaced all district commanders, 90% of the deputies, 80% of the commanders of army corps and divisions, 91% of the regiment commanders and their deputies. |

dragos, "purge" was not equal to execution, it also included sentence to prison,dismissed from army, forced to retire etc. Many would back to command after war with Germany broke out |

| The excerpt stated that those generals were killed, not dismissed or arrested. Yes I know that some of the officers were only dismissed and then reabilitated. |

Until the end of 1945, 4601 officers and 2998 junior officers were dismissed from Romanian Army, as being "incompatible" with the new regime. The purges continued and until summer 1946, the Romanian officers were down by 50% and junior officers by 60%. In the summer of 1947, another 1200 Romanian military were dismissed. During 1945-1948, a total of 25,000 Romanian military were dismissed by the new regime. |

| Rumania was constrained by the Peace Treaty signed with the Allies, to substantially reduce its Army post war (I don't have the hard figures on hand). That was one of the main reasons why so many military personnel were let go... |

You are right according to the Paris Peace Treaty of 10 February 1947. But the Soviets were diligent and started their job much earlier...  |

| There was also a purge in 1940 when Antonescu took power, but much less violent. 164 superior officers were retired. |
