Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of May 2007, 10.00 - 14.00, there will be the 7th edition of the “National Military Museum Days”.

The event will start Saturday 19th of May, at 10.00, with a short historical ceremonial in front of the Museum with the participation of the Dorobantzes and Artillerymen of the “6 Dorobantzes” association ( http://www.6dorobanti.ro/ ) and the Bulgarian reenactors of their national association “Traditsia”, dressed in 1877 uniforms.

At 10.30, in the Museum courtyard will be a short ceremonial inauguration of General I. E. Florescu monument, raised in 1895 in front of the Atheneum, demolished by the communist regime, then rescued and recently restored by the Museum specialists.

Then the public could participate at different demonstrations performed by the reenactment groups and the Museum specialists, heaving as a theme the War of Independence.

As previous years, the public could visit the exhibitions and small workshops presenting equipment, weapons, a medical aid station of 1877, the “Junior Dorobantzes” (“Micii Dorobantzi”) association, the locomotives of the war, airsoft shooting sessions, etc.

For the duration of the event it will be a concert of classic songs and marches of late 19th Century period, and also waltzes and polkas. As usually, a field kitchen will offer traditional pork & beans army rations and the interested people could buy (and drink) beer and refreshments.

A Militaria fair will be also open for those interested in old military items or documents.

Considering there is going to be a national referendum on the 19th of may, what will happen with the "National Military Museum Days”? unsure.gif

Posted by: Kepi April 27, 2007 03:26 pm
The “National Military Museum Days” will be held on the 19th and 20th of May, as it was planned, despite the presidential referendum.

Unfortunately, the show of Ploiesti will be postponed, because the “The City of Ploiesti Days” are canceled. This will affect the Bulgarian reenactors participation as they were keen to commemorate 130 years of the Independence War.

Maybe the War of Independence commemoration will be resumed, with the Bulgarians help, on September during the reconstruction of the third battle of Plevna (on 8th of September).

Judging from the photos, it looks like the event was a great success.

All I can say is "Wish I was there".

If there are any events planned for August, please let me know. I'll be in Romania then and would be happy to help out in any possible way.

Gen. Dénes

The "guy" apparently smiling from the truck cab is... Henry Coanda.

His statue is located near the vehicle.

Despite the rainy weather, the motorcars race and the presidential referendum, we had some high ranking enthusiast visitors.
