Hallo Gentlemen. I am looking for some help with regards these awards, MEDALIA TUDOR VLADIMIRESCU Class I and Class II. http://img123.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p4113459.jpg I picked up a I Class box with a medal inside, I have been told the medal is in fact II Class. http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2871a.jpg Looking in the Catalog from"AUCTION II" 2003 by Mr. Stambuliu on page 60 he shows what he says are the I class and II class. http://img111.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2869a.jpg http://img294.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2870a.jpg I called a friend today to ask if he had a First Class, and he said he had, I asked him to bring it along to the local hobby club, he turned up with the medal on the left, which to my eyes looked silver (although more shiny in appearance) and has the same ribbon as the original medal in the box I bought. This has created some confusion, so, can anybody tell me which is which? Does the first Class have a ribbon with two thin stripes? And the Second Class have only one broad stripe in the center of the ribbon? And was there a Third class medal as well in this series. And was there more than one Maker of this award? The Medal was issued in two classes, the First Class being a round silvered medal approximately 33 mm. in diameter with the bust of Tudor Vladimirescu on the obverse being surrounded by oak leaves. The Second Class was the same as the First Class only in bronzed medal. The ribbon for the First Class consisted of a 35 mm. light blue moiré ribbon with one 8 mm. silver stripe centered in the middle of the ribbon. The Second Class was exactly as the First Class only there were two 3 mm. silver stripes centered in the middle of the ribbon. Both the First and Second Class had a ribbon device consisting of a portion of a wreath formed in two branches united in the middle by a ring. The device was approximately 43 mm. long and was of silvered metal for the First Class and gilt metal for the Second Class. http://img17.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vladregularcopy.jpg

Hallo Cuza, many thanks for the info, so this medal goes against the normally accepted criteria of: I Class = Gold / Gilt. 2 Class = Silver / Silver Gilt (and where applicable) 3 Class = Bronze. Kevin in Deva.

Hi Kevin Yes, I think you are correct with that observation. The only other communist era medal with class 1 silver & class 2 bronze, that I can think of, is the Medalia Maternitatii (Maternity Medal). The other medals with only 2 classes (Cultural Merit, Sport Merit, Military Merit & In Service of the Socialist Fatherland) all follow the class 1 gilt & class 2 silver system. Alan in Bradford

Usualy they were given to diferent levels of ofcials for "revolutionary achivements" on festive ocasions like 23 august,1 of may etc Ordinul Tudor Vladimirescu a fost instituit pe 13 aprilie 1966, prin Decretul nr. 272 publicat in Buletinul Oficial nr. 16. Putea fi conferit atat militarilor cat si civililor si cetatenilor straini. Se acorda celor care “prin participarea la lupta revolutionara au adus o contributie insemnata la castigarea libertatilor democratice si la instaurarea socialismului”.
