WorldWar2.ro Forum > Awards & Badges > Does anyone know this badge?

Hello everyone,

I have inherited the badge/decoration in the enclosed image, but I am not sure whom it belonged to in my family, or when / what it was awarded for.

I'm guessing it belonged to my grandfather who was a pilot in WWII, so the eagle makes sense. Further, since it bears the royal coat of arms and the emblem of king Carol II, it must have been awarded before his "abdication" in 1940. The PP in the lower right corner - what does that stand for? Pro Patria?

I have searched quite a lot on the internet, but so far I have failed, so please help me fill in the blanks, if you can.

Yours sincerely,

Vlad

Hi Vlad, welcome on this forum.
The badge you have posted is the 1st class badge from a youth-military organisation, something similar with the PAP(PTAP) organisation during the communists.
PP means "Pregatire Premilitara"(Premiltary Preparation).
The PP badge has 3 classes, and there are 2 models.
The first model(yours) has King Carol II cypher and the 2nd model is with King Michael's cypher.
The first and second class badges are with enameled shield . You will find also 2nd class badges without enameled shield.
