WorldWar2.ro Forum > Awards & Badges > Please help identify "vanatorilor" badge

Posted by: Karageorge September 12, 2006 05:38 am
Hello. I'm not a regular user of these forums, but this seemed like a good place to ask for help identifying a badge I inherited from my grandfather. He recently passed away, and most of his collection is labelled (and East German). However, I found a loose badge which I have been unable to identify, and I am fairly certain it is from post-war Romania.

The badge is shield shaped a little under an inch and a half tall, and the most prominent feature is a brass deer or elk with its mouth open on a blue field. The antlers extend beyond the boundries of the badge on both sides. There is a Romanian tricolor band on both edges near the top, and the bottom center reads "RPR" in blue letters. Between these on the right hand side in gold letters on red reads "A Vanatorilor", and on the left is something difficult to make out, possibly "ASOC.G-LA". I believe "Vanatorilor" means hunter or tracker, but that is just from a translation on a tourist website.

The back of the badge is a single bent metal point without a clasp (not missing, but apparently never there). I conjecture that this might be intended to go into a hatband or through a buttonhole. There is no date.

If anyone can help me identify this or direct me to a website I would appreciate it very much.

Hello!
This is indeed a Hunter association badge from Romanian People's Republic 1948-1965.
ASOC. - Asociatia - Association
G-LA - I don't know
A Vanatorilor - Hunter's
I don't know exactly what it is, maybe someone else knows more.

G-LA - I don't know

Probably means "Generala"

Thus the text translates as the General Association of Hunters.
