I bought a Czech medal awarded to a Romanian in 1959. The name of the medal (from the award certificate) is "Dukelskou Pametni Medaili".

I can't find my camera so i can't post pictures. But does anybody know what is this medal and why was it awarded to a Romanian?

Does it have the ribbone bellow? If yes, it is the Dukla Commemorative Medal.

Yes, that's the one. What was it awarded for?

According to http://www.czechpatriots.com/csmu/medal6.php, it was awarded for the battle of the Dukla Pass taking place from 8 September to 28 November 1944. It should be noted that the site mentions only the Czechoslovaks as awardees of the medal.

Thank you for the information. I have the award certificate showing that it was awarded to a Romanian.

I do not know how to interpret the statement on the site either. They could mean that the medal was reserved for the members of the 1st Czechoslovak army corps, but the award to the Romanian indicates this is in fact an error. And it could also be that they were referring only to the Czechoslovak units in the USSR, while not implying that the award was reserved to them.

According to the site with ribbons, it's the "Medal for Strengthening Brotherhood in Arms", 1st Class.

Some of the countries of the communist block had such specific medals for their Warsaw Pact comrades.

I finally found my camera, here is the Czech medal. I also have a post-1989 Slovakian commemorative medal awarded to a Romanian (the one to the right).
