| I have two WW2 Air Force visor hats from the Engineering branch of the Air Force which wore the lighting bolt insignia in the center shield of the Air Force Eagle insignia. |

| Never seen such a badge. In my opinion this is not a regimental badge of the Aeronautical Engineers Regiment. More likely it might be a WW2 flying radio-operator qualification badge, as for the pilots and observers. |

| I tend to disagree. Regimental badges were made in few numbers. Sometimes 1-6 pieces. Qualifications badges were made in many numbers especially if handed out for courses taken at the Air Force Schools. Qulification badges were also made less superior then this one shown. This badge reflects that it is of the same quality made piece as a regimental badge. It is in my opinion that if this were a qualification badge, we would have seen it more often. It sounds like this is the first time that anyone has seen a piece like this one. Every Bomber had a radio-operater. If this were the case, this badge would be as common as a pilot or observer badge. It is not however. |

| I have a hypothesis about this badge . It could be from 1946-1947 , from the last period of the royalty , that's why is so rare. Probably just few pieces were given to the communication personnel from aircrafts. |

I have just looked in "Insignele Aviatiei Militare Romane" ("Romanian Airforce Insignia") by Marcel Iliese and this badge is illustrated on page 67. It is identified as Transmisionist de Bord (onboard signal specialist) from the 1940-47 period and is classed as having the highest degree of rarity ("no more than 5 pieces known in present day collections").
