|What do you think about this badge of the Order of the Star? Does it look as if it has a modern cross, a 1930s-40s central medallion and a Krétly(?) crown?|
|Posted by: Carol I November 23, 2004 08:09 am|
|It did make 151.50 USD!|
|Posted by: b737 November 23, 2004 11:59 am|
You have right, the cross is new, the central medallion and the crown are old!!!!
Compare it with the following picture from a new breaststar (great officer).

| From what I can see it is the Comandor class from the time of Carol I.
HONOR ET PATRIA

Maybe the crown is from that period, but the rest is definitely not.

Thanks for the confirmation.
Is this star yours? Can you please post an image of the reverse?
|Posted by: aviatiadasenzatia November 23, 2004 09:00 pm|
|This one is a genuine commodore "Star of Romania" , model 2 , war type (with swords) . You can compare them.|
|Posted by: Carol I November 23, 2004 09:17 pm|
Is this badge yours? Can you please post an image of the reverse? Can you describe the hallmarks on the suspension ring? Thanks.
|Posted by: aviatiadasenzatia November 23, 2004 09:20 pm|
|Yes it's mine , one of them.... Here's the reverse.|
|Posted by: aviatiadasenzatia November 23, 2004 09:22 pm|
|On the suspension ring , there is a hallmark with SILBER and CFZ (manufacturer).|
|Posted by: b737 November 23, 2004 09:30 pm|
Yes, it's mine but is not the best piece in my collection.....
The new pieces are made very.........rough!!
|Posted by: aviatiadasenzatia November 23, 2004 09:37 pm|
|This reverse looks to me like the communist "Star". The same cuts... It seems they have the same "meshteri"|
|Posted by: Carol I November 23, 2004 09:43 pm|
I understand you have several such badges in your collection. Can you please post more images?
|Posted by: Carol I November 23, 2004 09:45 pm|
Most likely manufactured by C.F. Zimmermann of Pforzheim.
|Posted by: Carol I November 23, 2004 09:46 pm|
Can you please post more images from your collection?
|Posted by: b737 November 25, 2004 10:04 am|
CFZ is Zimmermann in Pforzheim-Germany
|Posted by: Carol I November 25, 2004 05:47 pm|
| Very clear image. Thanks.
Is there anything else after "41"?
|Posted by: Carol I February 21, 2006 07:15 pm|
Is this a genuine badge? There are some differences from the badge posted a while ago by aviatiadasenzatia (see below), namely the crown and the ribbon suspension loop.

Obverse and reverse of the badge

| How common/uncommon was the dark red velvet interior of the case?
|Posted by: Carol I February 22, 2006 08:59 pm|
| No answers regarding the badge above?
I bring now to your attention another badge that appears to have some sort of (casting?) faults on the eagles on one side. Is it a genuine badge?

| One more badge with (casting?) faults on the eagles. Any comments?

| What do you think about the badge below? It shares some characteristics with the two badges above, but there are also some differences: thin motto ring, opaque green enamel on the wreath, wavy pattern on the obverse medallion, dotted pattern on the reverse medallion. This particular badge also seems to have some filling defects of the enamel on the obverse as well as some asymmetry and excess metal on the reverse arms of the cross.

| Another badge with similar features (thin motto ring, opaque green enamel on the wreath, wavy pattern on the obverse medallion, dotted pattern on the reverse medallion), but with wrong ribbon (also from eBay)

| For comparison , here is a photo of a Commodore Star of Romania - military during peace time , model 2 , manufactured by Resch .

| And the first model :

In my opinion, both pieces posted by you are ok!
There are not made by the "standard" manufacturers like Resch,Weiss or MN !!!
I have saw a lot of such pieces.
|Posted by: Carol I November 19, 2006 10:11 am|
Thanks b737. Do you happen to know who the manufacturer was?

| Poor copy of the Order of the Star sold on eBay as a "perfect and rigorous reproduction in the smallest detail of the original"
|Posted by: Carol I November 22, 2006 08:37 pm|
| And here is another one!
|Posted by: New Connaught Ranger November 23, 2006 10:09 am|
| Hallo Carol I,
These copies of the Romanian Order of the Star, are being sold by an Italian dealer on ebay I believe, in his auction he has also a Bavarian MVO Cross, I think they come from the Godet series of World medals that were quite collectable a few years ago, when originaly made and were clearly advertised as copies and came with a numbered certificate.
This guy is very loose with his descriptions and best avoided.

| This Order of the Star is for sale on www.okazii.ro. It's quite a strange one, look at the ataching ring between the medal and the swords I didn't sow something like that at this Order, and an other thing that is strang the space between the eagles.
What do you say???
|Posted by: mabadesc November 02, 2007 06:43 am|
| Maybe a little off-topic, but it has to be said:
In my opinion, some military award sellers on okazii.ro are just plain nuts! Their prices are outrageous, how can they think people would buy their items?
I'm speaking of the several examples listed of the WWII model Star of Romania in knight or officer classes.
Their starting bid prices range from 145 Euros (the only price even remotely reasonable), all the way to 1800 RON - that's for a knight class award!
No wonder there are no bids for any of them...
|Posted by: boonicootza November 02, 2007 11:23 am|
|As far as I know most of the expensive ones are part of a large group belonging to a Michael th Brave winner, general Dumitriu Ion. The seller doesn't really wants to break the group so he puts those high prices just for that.|
|Posted by: mabadesc November 02, 2007 05:49 pm|
| If that's the case, then it makes sense.
I've seen the Dumitriu grouping on a different thread, and it is indeed a very nice group of awards.
Thanks for clarifying, Boonicootza.

| Here is an other Order of the Star for sale on Okazii.
But there is something strange about it, the heads of the eagles aren't the same size and there are some mistakes at the eagles wings. Is it the same like the others posted in this tread. I think it's originall but I need a second opinion.
|Posted by: Claudiu1988 December 13, 2007 10:30 am|
| Here are 2 orders from okaii.ro, they are quite strange, because the orders are original and the crown and the ribbon I think are fake or from an other order, What do you think??? I need some opinions.
|Posted by: b737 December 13, 2007 01:43 pm|
| Hi ,both orders are replacements made by the National Mint after 1990 for all those recipients, who did lost or destroyed them because of fearing the communists!!!
|Posted by: Claudiu1988 December 13, 2007 02:15 pm|
|Thanks for the reply. I also think they are replacemnet made after 1990 but the only thinghs that I think are replaced are the crown and ribbon on bouth orders, because you can see the color of the crown don't mach the color of the order. So do you think that the orders could be ww2 and the crown and ribbon post 1990???|
|Posted by: b737 December 13, 2007 02:24 pm|
| No! There are complete made after 1990 ! The pictures are not so clear,so you can't see the difference between an old one and a replacement piece.
I had also such pieces in my collection. I kept only the Michael the Brave replacement.

|OK thanks very much for the help.|
