 I have several variations to this War College badge. What I have a question to any one out there is what is is the destinction of the center eagle of the War College badge being in Gold versus the same badge in which the eagle is all silver. Is this a class distinction and is there a meaning to the color variations or is it a an officers preference when he orders the badge from the manufacter. Most Royal Romanian Regimental badges that have variations in Gold and silver mean different classes. Badges from Czarist Russia in gold or gold gilt meant that the officer had more money to spend with his jeweler and wanted a badge that stood out from the rest of the officers. A show of wealth you might say.

It was officially called the staff officer badge (one had to graduate the war college for this) and was instituted by Royal Decree no. 1236 on 7 April 1931. A look into that decree might explain the differences.

I am currently in the process of gathering things in the house, packing them and moving themin the attick or to the neighbours, as the house will undergo a strengthening process. During the packing I have refound my grandfather's Military Academy Badge.

Unfortunately a part of the heraldic shield is damaged.
