Go to http://www.patzinakia.ro

In the Monumenta section you will find photos of fortifications and in Online books it is available Valentin Salageanu's Arhitectura militara pe teritoriul Tarii Romanesti si a Dobrogei in sec. XIII-XIV

I recommend that if one reads this site, to consult other sources of information either. I compared the hungarian version of history posted in relation with the photos presented and there are a lot of wrong data about the history of some fortresses. The most relevant is the history of Biharia, in the form of the history presented by the site. The best documented professional work about Biharia is

Sever Dumitraşcu - Biharea I., Săpăturile arheologice din anii 1973-1980 (Biharea I, Archaeological diggins 1973-1980), Editura Universitatii din Oradea, 1994

The site is ok with the photos, but the history presented has a lot of unreliable historical informations.

Are any of the fortifications built after the Independence War of 1877-78 still in existence and open for viewing? I understand that Jilava prison was one of the forts, but I guess it's not a tourist attraction!

Edit - Never mind. I found another topic which discusses this in great detail!
