WorldWar2.ro Forum > The post-WW2 and recent military > Is this man Ogoranu

Posted by: Ferdinand July 16, 2014 09:42 am
I bought some negatives some time ago and when i started to look thrugh them i came across this man who looks very much with anti-comunist resistance leader Ioan Gavrila Ogoranu. The places where the pics where taken are between Brasov and Fagaras, in different villages(as seen in the picture with BMW registered OS(Orasul Stalin=Brasov). Pictures are taken aprox 1960, in one of the picture a man stays near a cemetery cross with name Maria Banateanu d. 1960. So the age of the man is about age that Ogoranu had arround 1960(36 yo).

I wait for your oppinions.

Thanks!

small picture is made in 1946

Everything in possible, but in my opinion can't be him because in 1960 he was in hiding. You can always ask his family, I believe his wife is still alive.

My mistake then, I stand corrected. He still has a few family left, children of his wife.

Try this: http://ogoranu.ro/contact (they also have telephone numbers) or via facebook: https://www.facebook.com/fundatia.iongavrilaogoranu if you explain why you want to contact them they should help you, if not, there must be other ways (like historians of another foundation).

In the first photo the one with the mustache looks very much like Ogararu.

I'm almost 100% sure. The same skull bone shape, same hair insertions and the lower jaw in a quite rare V shape is too much to be a coincidence.

thanks C-2! cool.gif

there is an aspect in that picture. look at the position of the other 3 men. they are "pointing" to the guy with mustache, with their body position, as the man was someone important.

another picture....

even the house looks a little bit like the house in Alba.

The man in photos is not Ogoranu, it is sure. If you were read his memories, during those years, he was hiding in Alba county, and he would never let him be photographied.
He was hidind during that period, and he wrote that he never goes away, just hiding. He made a a temtative to cross the frontier in Yugoslavia, but he failed.

I know he was hiding , but, i know that he even had a job at some point. In this way he muck the "securitate", as he said in one interview. Thanks
