| Born in Bucharest 28 August 1920.
1941 promotion of the aviation oficers school.
Flotila 1 vanatoare.
Mamaia airfield and West front.
Ended the war at Pistiani in Chehoslovakia.
Virtutea Aeronautica cl. Crucea De Aur.
Virtutea Aeronautica grad De Comandor.
Some Soviet medals...
|Posted by: Victor January 25, 2006 05:09 am|
|You are mistaking here. Only 6 Romanians were awarded the Commander class of the Virtutea Aeronautica Order and he wasn't one of them. He only received the Virtutea Aeronautica Order Gold Cross class with two bars.|

| Well ,that's what Mr.Lucaci said..
But he wasn't sure.
He said "parca asa se cheama?"
I belive it didn't matter to him at all what kind of "Virtute" he recived!

Lucaci as a child with his parents.
His father an artilery oficer.

Lucaci MIhai has a very long nose...
Ones he had some eangine problems with a 109 and made a landing on a corn field.
He was arested by jandarms who were sure he was an American...
He asked them to call the flotila.
There the oficer in charge asked "has the pilot a very large nose?"
-Yes he does,answer the jandarm.
- Ok ,then it's our pilot, said the oficer.

A caricature with Gavriliu and Lucaci in the back,on a rusty motorcycle,on the way to the airfield.
|Posted by: C-2 January 26, 2006 12:56 pm|
| Today I heard from Dobran the story of the motorcycle.
It belonged to the brother if Chitu gavriliu-Traian Gavriliu, who was a IAR 80 pilot and fought in Stalingrad.
The bike was a big and powerful one.
Very hard to handle.
After a while it was sold to a guy from Sibiu who was so grateful that he came after a week an gave them a lot of goods.

Mihai Luccai's first accident.
While making low flying trainings, suddenly the plane stoped responding and Luccaci had to hit the sand.
Exept of a mionor knee injury, nothing happened to the pilot.

At the flying school.
Do you recognize another familiar face there?
|Posted by: Dénes January 26, 2006 11:26 pm|
| Well, beside Lucaci, I recognize Ion Dobran, Horia Pop and Liviu Muresan.
A better quality photo, or a scan, would help tremendously.
|Posted by: C-2 January 27, 2006 06:21 am|
| Ask them from CC.
He must have better quality.

Lucaci Mihai had as an instructor ,a strange guy named Ciontu.
Ciunto, during trainings ,use to hold the stick with bouth hands and never let the student to fly.
This behavior made the young guys very angry.
Once during a landing,Lucaci was waving with bouth hands to the guys on the ground.
After landing some other instructor told Ciontu about Lucaci.Ciontu spanked him twice as puniscment...
The very next day Ciontu made a fool of himself by the "landing "above.

|Posted by: Dénes January 27, 2006 08:21 pm|
| Yes, it is.
|Posted by: Victor January 28, 2006 05:25 am|
|It would be better if you would only post the better quality photos.|

| Mamaia airfield summer 1943,52 squad.
Upper row,from left:Brancoveanu,slt rez Jemna,cpt Ghica,Enciou.
Second row:Adj Grigore,Lucaci,cpt Lainek,Simion.
Third row: Adj ?,Zamfirescu,Maga,adj?.
|Posted by: Victor January 30, 2006 04:44 am|
| That's lt. av. Baron Radu Reinek, not cpt. Lainek.
The two ? on the third row are: serg. TR av. Radu Costace and adj. av. Vladimir Bodnar.
The photo could not have been taken in the summer of 1943, because both Ghica and Maga were assigned to different squadrons by that time.

| That is what is written on the back of the photo.
Maybee they were on a visit

The funerals of Iliescu at Brasov 1942.
He died in an accident at Pipera with an IAR 80.
More details are welcomed.
|Posted by: Dénes January 31, 2006 11:46 pm|
He must have been Slt. av. Ion M. Iliescu of Esc. 57 vân., KIFA aboard his I.A.R. 80 on June 4, 1942 at Pipera airfield. [JurnOp. Flot. 1 vân. mentions the date of his decease as June 5].

The surender of Mamaia airfield to the Soviets.
From left: Bazu,cpt. Micu,Lucaci,Fotescu.
They were suprised to see aSoviet general so modest dressed and so "simple".
|Posted by: Dénes February 01, 2006 02:16 pm|
| This photo was taken on the so-called 'Western Front', at Gr. 9 vân., in early 1945, perhaps February. Even the name of this Soviet General is known (something with S, like Semionov?).
Mamaia was overtaken by the Soviets in early September 1944 (now snow).
|Posted by: C-2 February 01, 2006 06:31 pm|
| Yes ,ther's something like Semionov writen on the back.
I'm just writing what is writen on the back.
Never been in Gr 9
All corections are welcomed.

I haven't either.
Is there a date written on the print's verso?
P.S. Lucaci is the 5th person from the right (incl. the half-obscured airman), while the first one at the left is 'Bâzu' Cantacuzino (it's nice to see him in 'dreptzi' position, for a change).
|Posted by: C-2 February 01, 2006 08:11 pm|
| Bazu is behind the soviet.
Lucaci is the second from left ,in front of the general.
|Posted by: C-2 February 02, 2006 07:20 pm|
From left:Micu, Dobran,Ciutac,Senkea,Rozariu,Lucaci,Georgescu.
|Posted by: Dénes February 02, 2006 08:28 pm|
| This photo was taken by the late Ion Galea.
|Posted by: C-2 February 02, 2006 08:45 pm|
| Dobran is in the photo...
He couldn't take it...
|Posted by: Dénes February 02, 2006 09:10 pm|
| Sorry, I actually meant Galea.
I corrected my original post.

Lucaci Mihai with a girlfriend, in Bucharest.
|Posted by: JulioMoc May 12, 2009 03:15 pm|
|What was Mihai's rank and unit during the war?|
|Posted by: Cantacuzino May 12, 2009 05:41 pm|
He was by the end of war Locotenet ( 2nd Lt.)
In summer '44 - 52nd squadron, Mamaia airfield (Bf 109 E)
In '45 - Gr. 7/9 Vanatoare (7/9th FG), west front
|Posted by: Dénes May 12, 2009 06:56 pm|
Locotenent means 1st Lt.
On the above photo he is still a Sublocotenent, i.e., 2nd Lt.
